Everglades Canoe Trip January 2003

Preparations

There was a cold north wind blowing on Sunday when Richard drove down to Everglades City to pick up the back country permit. This year, for the first time, one of our requested sites was already taken. Our original plan included the Sweetwater Chickee, which was now unavailable. The final route included a second night on the Gulf at New Turkey Key. This turned out to be a good alternative.

Uncle Jim arrived at the Fort Myers airport around 11pm. We drove back to Naples and did some quick packing before going to bed. We were up again around sunrise and loaded the canoe before heading down to Everglades.
