Everglades Kayak Trip after Hurricane Irma :: Richard Rathe & Friends :: January 2018

This was the toughest trip yet, starting with the Coot Bay Pond mangrove tunnel. What should have taken 15 minutes took over 2 hours. I was told it was "open" when I got the permit. Weather the first two days was also dreary and windy in non-useful ways. As soon as the weather got better we started having equipment failures, including leaks in two of three kayaks. We rose to the challenge with field repairs. On the up side we had three cool, mostly bug free days and had the place to ourselves!
