Sunday Bay to Everglades City (10 Miles)
We awoke in a dense fog and broke camp by 8:00. The sun did not
actually break through for another hour, which was a welcome relief.
We proceeded down the Lopez River, and arrived at Chokoloskee
without incident. Since it was low tide, we decided to take the
outside route around the island which proved to be much better than
the inside canal next to the causeway.

We reached our car in Everglades City at approximately 11:30am,
packed up the car and headed for home.
Things we learned on this trip:
- The weather started cool but it was very warm by the end of
the trip. There also seemed to be more power boats in the back
country. We resolved to plan our next trip earlier in January.
- The Broad/Harney River area is much more remote and very canoe-friendly.
The water taxi drop off was an excellent way to tour this area
with a limited time frame.
- The chickee campsites were superior to the ground and beach
sites, primarily due to their exposure, which makes them breezy
and less buggy. The beach sites are particularly problematic for
a number of reasons including lack of shade, insects, contamination
with sand, and low tide portages.
